In a post at Brighthand.com, Hewlett-Packard's worldwide PR manager is reported as saying,

"HP will not be offering an operating system upgrade for currently shipping HP iPAQ devices beyond what ships on the device today -- Microsoft Windows Mobile 6."

He does add, however, that future HP devices will run Windows Mobile 6.1. 

I can see many disappointed customers here.

Is anyone really surprised by this tho?

HP has never offered ROM upgrades to a new version for ANY of its devices that I can recall offhand.

That's totally in our planning docs for mobile projects, as a vendor/OEM note: "You get what it comes with."

HP offered WM5 upgrades for the HX4700 and the HX2000 series. It also offered PPC2003 upgrades for the 5450.

I also remember the day when PPC2002 was a FREE !! upgrade from PPC2000 on the older IPAQ's but that was back in the COMPAQ days.

That's a total of 3 models out of how many device models they have had over the years, even before they consumed Compaq?

HP is known for many good things, but ROM upgrades for their mobile device lines ain't one of 'em.

 I do remember the Compaq upgrades tho. I think I still have he PC Card sleeve for my old old iPAQ.
